Important do's and don'ts for temporary and contract workers
Please read these instructions before commencement of work.
GETTING WORK
To increase your chance of gaining work you should maintain contact with your consultant and telephone between 0900-1000 and 1600-1700 Monday to Friday.
You are not obliged to accept any work we offer you, which means you may turn down any job you feel is unsuitable. However failure to turn up to any job you have accepted could result in one, if not all the following:
- No further offers of work. -
- Inability to provide references to future employers.
- Loss of work for other temporary workers who could have attended.
- Spectrum Personnel losing future business with the client
- Loss or suspension of State Funded Benefits i.e. Jobseekers Allowance etc.
If you cannot attend work on any day, inform the office at least one hour PRIOR TO START TIME in order that another worker can be sent. Failure to do so may mean similar action to the above. Remember, you can speak to us 24/7.
WHILE AT WORK
a) Adhere to client’s rules regarding policies and behaviour on site. Familiarise yourself fully with client's Health & Safety as part of your Induction prior to commencement. Always wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment relevant to the job ensuring your own safety and the welfare of others. Always carry out any duties to the best of your capabilities. Remember, good work and attitude is rewarded with:
- Further offers of work by client.
- Further offers of work by Spectrum Personnel.
- The possibility of a permanent job with the client.
b) If, for any reason, you can’t complete the full day, inform Spectrum Personnel and the client immediately NEVER WALK OUT. This is a breach of Health and Safety Regulations and would result in us being unable to offer further assignments
c) At the end of your shift, ask your supervisor if you are required the following day.
d) If there is no need for you, telephone Spectrum Personnel for details of your next assignment.
PAYMENT OF WAGES
- We request you call the office on Monday before 1200 with details of hours worked the previous week. This will enable our Payroll Department to carry out checks prior to issuing payments and ensure your pay is correct
- Wages are paid weekly, in arrears, directly into your bank or building society, upon receipt of a correctly completed timesheet. No payments will be made by any other method than BACS.
- A P46 will give us a temporary tax coding but to ensure your correct coding is used you should give us your P45 on commencement of work.
- All tax and NI deductions are taken at source i.e. from your gross pay.
- Payslips are issued weekly in arrears and, allowing for postal issues, should be with you for Friday morning. Any wage query should be taken up during office hours.
- Holidays should be requested with your consultant at least one week prior to the date/s required. Your holiday allowance is 24 days pro-rata for the calendar year April 1st to March 31st. All holiday pay must be claimed within this period and cannot carry on into the next financial year.
STUDENTS
Students working during term holidays should complete a P38 which will prevent them paying tax if they are not likely to earn more than the tax threshold in the current year. For students working part-time all year round a P45 or P46 is required.
NOTICE PERIOD
If you intend to leave your assignment, please give as much notice as possible to allow for a replacement worker to be found. Please keep yourself right to ensure good relations are maintained between yourself and Spectrum Personnel for possible future assignments.
